* My major motivation of kicking of as a girl engined zine was reading and connecting to the words of Hanin Elias and Nic Endo of Atari Teenage Riot. Most of this I read in the DHR zine that was spread on their tour but I found some of it on the net too (see down here.) Of course I\that wasn't the first time that making a zine came into my head. I've been thinking about it ever since I was given a free zine at a Bis gig, years ago.

BUNNIES ON STRIKE, BALANCE IS OUR MOTIVATION

This is number one of Bunnies on Strike magazine. Kicked off girl-engined: made by and edited by girls.
Our motivation for kicking off the zine girl-engined? We have a riotgrrr-lady heart!

It was fuelled in October when we got a free DHR zine at an Atari Teenage Riot concert. Hanin Elias and Nic Endo explained the need for their girl-engined label DHR-fatal. These articles [together with the Le Tigre contributions] were inspiring to criticise the boy-centred world around us once again. It was time to take action. We decided to turn our frustrations into articles. All this material couldn*t be put in just one issue of a zine, we didn*t want to create an overkill. So we contacted girls from all over the world to write/draw/create something for us. Nearly everyone was inspired to write on gender-related issues [which wasn*t what we asked or aimed for, as we wanted it to deal with a wide variety of issues.]

In this male-centered world feminism seems to be something that needs to be excused and explained too much. I live in a world in which girls are in an unfair position. That*s something that needs to change and is worth fighting against. Like racism, homophobia and animal-torture, sexism is not tolerable. Unlike racism, homophobia and animal-torture, sexism is something I have to deal with everyday.

We want this zine to inspire girls and boys, and we will definitely print articles by girls and boys in the next zine [make sure you send us yr article!]. Boys have to be made aware of sexism just as much as girls. And without an active participation of boys we're just creating a girl-getto in which the aim for balance seems lost. And balance is our ultimate goal. We love girls and we love boys. Just as much as we hate girls and we hate boys. We want girls and boys to be open about their feminist minds!
