Dear Diary,
The rain was beginning to slacken, so I thought that the object hitting my windshield was a large
raindrop.
Unfortunately, it was a present from some wandering bird. Isn’t it nice how generous birds can
be? Who else (with
the possible exception of horses) give away such gifts so freely? And seagulls have to be near the
top on the
bird generosity scale. We didn’t give them the nickname of “Bombers” for nothing. Just ask one
of my friends.
We were walking home from school when we heard the cry of seagulls flying over our heads.
Now most people who live near
seagulls know to try make themselves as small a target as possible or to quickly get under cover.
And the one
cardinal rule that must be obeyed at all times is to never, NEVER look up! Unfortunately, my
friend did....and
the seagull did. I always thought that sunglasses were only meant to protect people's eyes from the
sun. That
day I saw that they could protect against other things as well. Too bad, she wasn’t wearing any.
Actually, the
seagulls must have really liked her since one had given her hair some unwanted decoration earlier
that year. But for some reason,
she didn’t have that same “warm, fuzzy feeling” for the seagulls.
You know, I just thought of something. Didn’t seagulls play a prominent role in Alfred
Hitchcock’s movie “The
Birds”? Maybe the seagulls were trying to tell us something?
