Our eyes were keen as we scanned the land,
The hills were young and new.
Streams and rivers laughed as over rocks, they danced
And the ground was covered with diamonds of dew.
We shared our realm with dwarves and elves
And wizards deemed to be wise.
Then came knights on horses proud
To claim a maiden, fair was their prize.
Slowly time began to flow
As humans started to disbelieve.
Their innocent sense of wonder was lost;
Replaced by “common sense” which deceives.
Soon there was no place for us,
The world became too small.
We disappeared within the mists.
As if we had never been at all.
But though you cannot see our shape,
We still watch over the land.
Gliding on mighty thrusts of wings,
Guarding all upon which our sight commands.
So if you ever feel you’re lost,
You may now rest secure.
For we will always be by your side;
Of that you may always be sure.
And if the time shall ever come
When we once more may return;
Our song will echo through all the trees
Ere sweet, and pure as the sun now burns.
