I don’t know if every dragon adopts a charge. It is probably that
most dragons choose to have very little (if anything) to do with
humans (which is understandable considering how badly humans have
treated dragons throughout the ages). But there is a group of dragons
who maintain a relationship with humans. They are the lore masters
who are trying to re-instruct us in the old ways of living in harmony
with all things and with each other. If we would open our hearts, we
could regain that sense of peace and tranquillity that was lost so
many years ago.

There are many dragons in the world. Many more would be our friends,
if we would only allow ourselves to believe.
