After leaving Matlack in October 31, 1997 I was hired at my same job by Laidlaw Env. (with a $10,000 raise). Laidlaw then bought Safety-Kleen and I spent the next six months taking day trips to Elgin IL to co-ordinate the 2 companies and fire people. I then took over the incineration planning process at Bridgeport. The job was great and the pay even better, but I missed the day to day insanity of terminal management. Then one day John Solewin called me and asked me to call Tom Moore. Tom used to work for Walt Winther at Matlack when the Matlack family owned the company. Walt and his son now owned Delaware Express and they were looking for someone to manage the day to day operations.

After living 46 years in Swedesboro, watched a farm area grow into a large population of new homes and the need for new schools, raising taxes, raising taxes, raising taxes. Decided to relocate to Delaware (for those of you that remember Tad, he lives 9 miles from us and kept his sanity by leaving the trucking industry to teach school). It's nice starting out in a new state with a new home and life to look forward to.

Hey out there in Matlack Land, Things are ok with me, I can still hunt and peck,Mr. Gehringer. The post Matlack world has never been the same, working for a company like Matlack ,spoiled the heck out of me, that company spoiled a lot of people and I just want to say, they were some of the bestthat I have ever met. I know that I came from the old school but I sure was happy to see some old names, like Leo Ulery down in Ironton Oh and boy can I relate to some of the stories. I drove for 7 yrs and went toBill McGrath at LP for 2 1/2 but Bill Sickles changed my mind, so I listened to Ray Wiggins and went mgmt. I also paid attn to Bob Hindle and his bro Ray. that ws a mistake So I went to Tom and he said get out while u can, and that was a fatal... I really enjoyed Matlack, they taught me more about this business, than if I took a doctorate at Harvard, I'm sure u can tell that I did not! However I do have a few good ones to relate to y'all. It's been nice, I hope to hear from all of you....

In Nov. 2004, I spent a few good hours with my good buddies from the old Woodbridge NJ terminal Jim Tracy and Jack O'Malley and their respective wives, Jacks wife used to be the receptionist and gal friday at #51 WB we just got right back into the drivers room as soon as we re-met for the first time in many years, so if your ears were ringing, thats the story, we all live within 2 hours or so, and we will get together again, please drop me a line if you know me or who I'm talking about,,,,or if you are just interested. I was with the pipeline for 15 years, all 3 of us were affiliated with the Roadeo,"Bill McGrath" Jim and I won the NJ state championships(seperate classes) and went on to the nationals twice as reps of the"pipeline" and we both scored well but did'nt win. Our Matlack spirit won...No doubt! Well my freinds, take care, be safe, and I hope to hear from ya soon...

Dave Wilson and Mahlon Graves were among the ex-Rollins family. Steve Crawford is still around and still is the 'phone guy', but not in a Management position. We are in the midst of a full systems conversion (sound familiar?) and I head the group which is making it all happen and will maintain all systems afterwards. So much for my EDI days. Hell if I know what I did to get this position. One thing I do know is now I can relate to what Sr. Mgt. went through when we converted. I'm sure you guys had stock in Tums and Rolaids!
